Former Bechem United and Hearts of Oak defender, Daniel Quaye has hit out at Ghana captain, Andre Ayew’s performance at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
Quaye described Ayew as a selfish player, adding that the Black Stars don’t belong to his father.
He believes Ayew made a poor decision that cost Milovan Rajevac’s men the match against Gabon last Friday, as the encounter eventually ended in a 1-1 draw.
What was Andre Ayew thinking when he could have passed the ball to Joseph Paintsil to score the second goal?” Quaye said on Accra-based Happy FM.
It was a clear goal-scoring opportunity for the Black Stars, but Andre Ayew decided to keep the ball to himself. We must let Andre understand that the Black Stars isn’t for his father.
He is always seeking glory for himself and not the team. He always wants to grab the headlines, which is bad for the team.
He is selfish and his attitude isn’t helping the team. If I’m playing with Andre Ayew, I would never enjoy playing with him because he is selfish,” he added.
Quaye played ten times for the Black Stars in the 2000s.
Meanwhile, Ghana was eliminated from the 2021 AFCON in the group stages on Tuesday night following a shock 3-2 defeat to debutants Comoros.
