Ngwa Patriots Forum yesterday May 20, 2022, threw their weight behind the 2023 Governorship aspiration of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor Abia State University, Professor Uche Ikonne.
The adoption followed a unanimous decision by the forum that Professor Ikonne be endorsed as the sole candidate, ahead of the 2023 Abia Guber Elections.
Speaking at the meeting, the President of the forum Chief Uzo Ihuka noted that the decision to adopt Prof. Ikonne came after careful deliberations of the forum.
The legal adviser, Barr. Chris Nkuma, while unveiling the association’s decision, explained that the endorsement is hinged on Prof. Ikonne’s identified strengths and qualities which include time-proven credentials, competence, character, conviction, compassion, and commitment to the development of Abia State.
Akuma further noted that these are evidence-based reasons that justify the choice of Professor Ikonne to succeed the current Governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D.
They further called on all other aspirants from Ukwa Ngwa extraction, to jettison their ambition and support Prof. Ikonne.
In their separate speeches, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Okey Ahiwe, Hon. Commissioner Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs Rt. Hon. C.O Enweremadu, gave further credence to Prof Ikonne’s creative ingenuity and brilliant developmental ideas to transform any position entrusted to him.
They further noted that the need to elect a competent and reliable Abian, with a proven track record, integrity, transparency & hard work in the person of Professor Ikonne as Governor, is to consolidate the foundation of our founding fathers.
In his response, Professor Ikonne thanked the Ngwa Patriots for the honor as well as promised to consolidate on the peaceful atmosphere created by the incumbent Governor. He also revealed that his administration will run an all-inclusive government where every Abian will feel a sense of belonging.
In his vote of thanks, the Director-General, Uche Ndi Abia Campaign Organisation Rt. Hon. Chinedum Elechi and the body for their visit implored them to remain resolute in their support for Professor Eleazar Uchenna Ikonne.
Chief Chris Odinaka Igwe, Chief Morris Abazie, Hon. D.K Uduma, Rev. Benson Ezem, and Dr. Chinatu Njoku among other dignitaries accompanied Prof. Ikonne to the meeting.
