The Abia State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Rt.Hon.Alwell Asiforo Okere, Ph.D. has said that the quality and number of Aspirants who have purchased their nomination and expression of interest forms for various political offices under the platform of the Party is proof that the PDP is a party to beat in the next general elections.

The State PDP Chairman made the declaration when he received a former Vice-Chancellor of the Abia State University, Uturu, Prof.Uchenna Eleazar Ikonne, and members of his campaign team at the State Party’s Secretariat in Umuahia on Thursday, who came to inform the Party of his intention to contest for the 2023 Governorship seat of the State under the PDP, advised the Governorship Aspirant to keep consulting and convincing the Party’s stakeholders about his ambition.

Rt.Hon.Asiforo Okere assured Prof.Ikonne that the Party will provide a level playing field for all Aspirants to contest and wished him success as he aspires to become the next Governor of the State come 2023.

Ikonne promised to bring his vast experience, maturity, and commitment to bear by harnessing the human and capital resources of Abia State for rapid development of the State and urged the Party to support his ambition to enable him to secure PDP’s ticket and win in the general elections.

He further urged the Executive of the Party to give their ticket to someone capable of transforming and building on the existing legacies of the incumbent Governor, Dr.Okezie Ikpeazu.

In their contributions, the Director-General of Uche Ndi Abia Campaign Organization, Rt. Hon Barr.Chinedum Elechi, the Director, Media and Publicity, Uche Ndi Abia Campaign Organization, Sir Don Ubani, Barr. Randi Ukawoke former Transition Committee Chairman of Umuahia South and Dr.Ken Madubuike maintained that Prof.Ikonne stands out as the best person to occupy the Governorship seat based on his wealth of knowledge and determination to develop and sustain peace in the State and called on the Party Stakeholders to throw their support behind him.

The event was witnessed by Members of the State Executive Committee of the PDP among other Chieftains of the Party from different parts of the State.
